Mike Frampton joined Murfett Legal as “Partner – Tax, Commercial & Estate Planning” in October 2017 in order to head up the commercial practice group for the firm.

Having previously worked in Australia at three top-tier national/international firms for over 25 years, with more than 13 of those years being at partner level, Mike brings a wealth of knowledge, depth and experience to the Murfett Legal team.

Mike has worked with large national and international public companies, large and small private companies, partnerships, trusts and other business enterprises as well as high wealth individuals. He genuinely enjoys the technical challenges associated with tax and commercial law and the opportunities to assist clients by providing practical solutions to complex tax and commercial issues.

He seeks to foster relationships with clients by being highly visible and approachable when engaging with people to provide client solutions.  Mike can identify relevant issues and present persuasive arguments to manage client expectations and achieve effective and commercial outcomes.

areas of expertise

Assisting with the restructure of corporate groups, the structure of complex commercial and property transactions and with the tax and stamp duty implications of financing these transactions.

Preparing advice, objections and submissions in relation to most aspects of revenue law, including income tax, capital gains tax, fringe benefits tax, GST, stamp duty, payroll tax and land tax for a range of corporate clients.

Negotiating settlements with the Office of State Revenue, Australian Taxation Office and Crown Law in relation to income tax and State tax disputes.

Assisting with due diligence for the acquisition and sale of businesses.

Negotiating and drafting a variety of commercial documents and provision of advice on those documents, including:

  1. Business Sale Agreements;

  2. Share Sale Agreements;

  3. Asset Sale Agreements;

  4. Discretionary and unit trust deeds;

  5. Joint Venture Agreements;

  6. Partnership Agreements;

  7. Put and Call Option Agreements;

  8. Unitholder and Shareholder Agreements; and

  9. Employee Share and Option Schemes.

BCom - Bachelor of Commerce (University of Natal South Africa)

Post-Graduate Diploma in South African Taxation & Estate Planning (University of South Africa)

Degree courses in New Zealand for Company Law & Taxation

Courses in Criminal Law, Contracts Law, Property Law, Accident Compensation, Constitutional Law (New Zealand Law Society)

Course in Australian Constitutional Law (Legal Practice Board of WA)
