Work History:
Shawn Koy joined Murfett Legal as a junior Commercial Lawyer in August 2011. Prior to that, he practised in the area of insurance litigation specializing in Workers’ Compensation for about 10 months with Rankin Nathan Lawyers. He was admitted to the Supreme Court of Western Australia on 2 June 2011.
Before Shawn moved into the practice of law, he was a Deputy Superintendent with the Singapore Police Force. His police experience ranges from criminal investigations, operations, foreign policy and organisational development. His last appointment was that of a Commanding Officer of a regional police centre with command and control over about 100 junior police officers.
While in the police force, Shawn discovered his strengths in analysis of issues, big picture thinking and problem solving skills. He was also very strong in drafting policy papers and conceptual papers. Shawn’s move into a legal career was hence both a natural progression and a seamless transition.
